Emergency Veterinary Assistant

About This Role

Provide essential support to veterinarians and technicians in an emergency veterinary setting, ensuring compassionate patient care, accurate record keeping, and maintaining a clean and functional hospital environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate care to all patients
• Greet patients and their owners, taking weight and vital signs upon arrival
• Triage patients, perform physical exams, treatments, and administer medication as directed by LVT's
• Calm and soothe anxious patients
• Assist doctors and technicians with medication administration or patient restraint
• Perform laboratory tests and take radiographs
• Operate and maintain hospital equipment (EKG, fluid pump, etc.)
• Fill prescriptions, calculate and administer medications, maintain controlled drug documentation
• Feed patients as prescribed and report abnormal conditions or behaviors
• Communicate positively with clients and educate them about insurance, wellness, and medicinal plans
• Maintain hospital cleanliness, clean equipment, kennels, and facilities
• Bath and care for overnight patients, ensuring cleanliness prior to release
• Adhere to hospital's safety and wellness regulations
• Maintain accurate medical records
• Show up for work regularly; full-time presence at work is essential for every shift

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Two or more years’ experience in veterinary environment
• Experience with surgical monitoring
• Experience with radiology
• Experience with client education

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 2+ years’ experience in veterinary environment successfully performing all of the duties of this position
