Electrician Helper

About This Role

This role involves assisting skilled electricians by performing supportive duties under immediate supervision on a construction/industrial site. Responsibilities include learning to interpret drawings, assisting with installation and repair of electrical systems, and operating various tools.

Responsibilities

• Learn to interpret drawings, sketches, software, plans and determine best work procedures, tools, equipment needed to troubleshoot and repair problems
• Assist skilled craftsman measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble and install electrical conduit; weld supports; install cable and duct banks; make terminations
• Assist with the installation of control and distribution apparatuses and fastens in place
• Assist with the test and start up systems and continuity of circuit to insure electrical compatibility and safety of components
• Observe functioning of installed equipment or system to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement
• May be required to pull wire through conduit; connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment
• Work with high and low voltage systems
• Assist with the disassembly and repair of defective electrical equipment or systems
• Learn to operate electrical and mechanical hand tools, power, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical tools

Requirements

• Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management/supervision
• Field experience in chosen craft discipline
• Knowledge of the safe and efficient use of hand tools, power tools and layout tools
• Ability to constantly move about a construction/industrial site
• Ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl
• Ability to work in changing outdoor weather conditions
• Ability to work irregular hours, weekends, overtime and holidays
• Ability to use ladders/mechanical platforms/manlifts/scaffold to access required equipment/work areas (may exceed 200 feet)
• Ability to climb and maintain balance on formwork, steel formwork, stairs, ladders and scaffolds
• Ability to move and work in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven surfaces
• Ability to complete tasks in a noisy and dusty environment
• Ability to move items weighing up to 50 pounds

• Ability to observe and comply with all safety and project rules
• Ability to pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing

Qualifications

• High school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area
