Electrician Helper

About This Role

Assist skilled electricians in performing supportive duties on construction/industrial sites, learning to interpret plans, install electrical systems, and troubleshoot issues under immediate supervision.

Responsibilities

• Learn to interpret drawings, sketches, software, plans and determine best work procedures, tools, equipment needed
• Assist skilled craftsman measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble and install electrical conduit
• Assist with the installation of control and distribution apparatus'
• Assist with the test and start up systems and continuity of circuit to insure electrical compatibility and safety
• Observe functioning of installed equipment or system to determine hazards and need for adjustments
• Pull wire through conduit and connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment as required
• Work with high and low voltage systems
• Assist with the disassembly and repair of defective electrical equipment or systems
• Learn to operate electrical and mechanical hand tools, power, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical tools

Requirements

• Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions
• Field experience in chosen craft discipline
• Knowledge of the safe and efficient use of hand tools, power tools and layout tools
• Ability to move about a construction/industrial site (stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl)
• Ability to work in a construction environment and be exposed to changing outdoor weather conditions
• Ability to work irregular hours, weekends, overtime and holidays as required
• Ability to use ladders/mechanical platforms/manlifts/scaffold to access required equipment/work areas
• Ability to move and work in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven surfaces
• Ability to complete tasks in a noisy and dusty environment
• Ability to move items weighing up to 50 pounds
• Required tools
• Ability to pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing, fit for duty medical and background check

Qualifications

• High school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area
• Entry level with previous years of experience in the field or related area
