This role involves ensuring the accuracy and reliable operation of the transmission and sub-transmission grid by modeling system components and synchronizing data for FirstEnergy's electrical systems. It requires coordinating with internal and external entities to resolve modeling discrepancies and ensure compliance with industry standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform system modeling and data synchronization of transmission and sub-transmission lines, interconnections, substations, and transformers.
- Support the maintenance of FirstEnergy system models to reflect up-to-date topology, ratings, impedances, and equipment parameters.
- Coordinate modeling information with internal and external entities including FirstEnergy Operations, Regional Planning, Neighboring Transmission Owners, PJM, ReliabilityFirst, and NERC.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders for yearly 5-year breaker duty studies and short circuit calculations.
- Conduct transmission modeling activities with operating companies, other utilities, non-utility load/generation, PJM, and ReliabilityFirst.
- Resolve modeling discrepancies, questions, and compliance concerns.
- Perform and oversee calculations using company standard and proprietary manufacturer software.
- Actively participate in industry working groups and forums to establish FirstEnergy as a leader in transmission activities.
- Seek opportunities to increase internal and external customer satisfaction and deepen relationships with neighboring companies, PJM, ReliabilityFirst, and NERC.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET accredited institution
- At least 2 years of engineering experience
- Demonstrated analytical and reasoning capabilities
- Refined oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently on broad assignments
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Word)
- Basic researching skills
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET accredited institution or equivalent combination of degree and PE license.
- 2+ years of engineering experience, 5+ years for Engineer IV level.
