Monitor and manage the regional distribution system, ensuring safe and efficient operations, coordinating switching activities, and responding to system disturbances for Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L).
Responsibilities
- Monitor the day-to-day operations of the regional distribution system
- Adhere to all aspects of safety, including the Accident Prevention Handbook (APH) and Manual of Operations
- Recommend operational improvements and communicate system events to appropriate personnel
- Operate SCADA EMS, Automated Mapping/Facilities Management (GIS), PowerOn Outage Management System (OMS), EDOA, and DCC Notification System
- Analyze and act promptly in cases of system disturbance to restore normal configuration
- Provide technical analysis, monitor systems, and schedule/authorize FirstEnergy distribution equipment outages and load transfers
- Develop detailed scenarios to identify operating problems caused by contingency outages
- Assign and direct switching activities and work assignments to field personnel
- Monitor system and weather conditions
- Coordinate staffing requirements by calling additional resources to handle emergencies
Requirements
- Associate's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering/Electrical Engineering Technology, or related certification, OR 2-4 years' related work experience
- Pass the Edison Electric Institute (EEi) System Operator/Power Dispatching Test (SO/PD II)
- Strong reading and comprehension skills to interpret technical documentation
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Able to remain professional in high stress, high volume work environment
- Live within 45 minutes commute time of Holmdel, NJ or Morristown, NJ
- Willing to work rotating shifts and be available for overtime work
Qualifications
- Associate's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering/Electrical Engineering Technology, or related certification from an accredited institution
- 2-4 years' related work experience with demonstrated understanding to operate the distribution system, if no degree/certification
