Donor Screener

About This Role

The Donor Screener is responsible for ensuring donor acceptability by interpreting health history and vital signs, setting up automated collection instruments, monitoring donors during collection, and managing reactions.

Responsibilities

• Confirm donor identification
• Teach donors to use self-administered questionnaires and provide assistance
• Perform donor arm checks
• Determine donor vital signs and weight, accurately recording results
• Determine donor suitability by reviewing questionnaire responses and confirming answers to suitability questions
• Defer donors based on knowledge of acceptance and deferral criteria
• Explain deferrals and associated time frames to donors
• Maintain donor confidentiality regarding deferrals
• Perform total protein readings using a refractometer and record results
• Perform hematocrit readings and record results
• Perform quality control of screening equipment
• Enter required information into applicable donor center systems
• Confirm all required donor suitability criteria and records are complete and accurate before determining donor acceptance

Requirements

• Ability to understand and interpret government regulations and customer specifications
• Able to work in high-pressure, deadline-driven environment
• Computer proficient with intermediate skills in office programs
• High school diploma or equivalent
