This role involves performing electrical distribution design engineering for Leidos utility customers, including developing work packages and managing project scope, schedule, and budget. The engineer will ensure high-quality design deliverables and continuous improvement to workflow processes.
Responsibilities
- Perform design engineering for Leidos electric utility customers
- Develop work packages for OH, UG, URD, and Make Ready, using customer GIS and WMS systems
- Manage scope, schedule, and budget of assigned work
- Perform functional tasks, planning, and customer follow-up
- Perform scope analysis of assigned work and maintain schedule adherence
- Initiate continuous improvement to workflow processes that drive efficiency and high-quality standards in client design deliverables
- Gain experience in coordinating conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements
- Assess and develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments
- Develop work permits, easements, and ROW applications
- Conduct local or regional customer-site visits to collect field data for work package development
Requirements
- 4+ years of prior relevant experience with electric utility or consulting performing design engineering for electric distribution
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution
- Experience and demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC)
- Some prior experience with structural analysis, guying calcs, cable pulling calcs, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault currents calculations
- Ability to provide own reliable transportation for customer-related travel
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution; additional relevant experience/certifications may be considered in lieu of bachelor's degree
- 4+ years of prior relevant experience working directly with an electric utility or an electric utility consulting company performing design engineering for electric distribution.
Nice to Have
- Experience providing estimated costs, development of a BOM, calculating CIAC
- Experience with design tools such as Pole Foreman, Pull Planner, and Katapult
- Experience with work management software and job estimating software
- Experience with CAD or MicroStation for Electrical Distribution Design
- Experience in providing Quality Assurance and Quality Control for Design Projects
- High level organization and project management skills
- Ability to uptrain entry level resources and create process documents
