Director of Retail

About This Role

The Director of Retail oversees all retail operations and performance across the company’s dispensary locations. This role provides strategic leadership to ensure consistent execution, regulatory compliance, strong financial performance, and an exceptional customer experience.

Responsibilities

• Identify, evaluate, and onboard new cannabis products and brand partners that align with company standards, customer demand, and regulatory requirements
• Build and maintain strong relationships with licensed cultivators, manufacturers, and distributors to ensure a diverse and competitive product mix
• Lead product assortment strategy, including category management, SKU selection, and lifecycle management
• Monitor market trends, consumer preferences, and competitive offerings to inform purchasing decisions
• Collaborate with marketing and store leadership on new product launches, merchandising strategies, and staff education
• Negotiate pricing, terms, and promotional opportunities with vendors to support margin and sales goals
• Oversee daily retail operations across all dispensary locations, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and brand alignment
• Lead and support store managers, providing coaching, accountability, and performance management
• Develop, implement, and continuously improve retail standard operating procedures
• Ensure full compliance with all state and local cannabis regulations, licensing requirements, and reporting obligations

Requirements

• Must be 21 years of age or older
• 3+ years of senior retail leadership experience in the cannabis industry
• Experience locating and securing cannabis inventory
• Proven experience managing multiple locations and leading store-level leadership teams
• Strong knowledge of retail operations, compliance, and performance metrics
• Experience working in highly regulated industries with strict SOP and reporting requirements
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Financial acumen related to retail KPIs, labor management, and inventory control

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Retail Management, or a related field preferred
• 3+ years of senior retail leadership experience in the cannabis industry.
