Director of Finance

About This Role

Lead the financial operations of an independent school in Bend, Oregon, ensuring sound financial stewardship through comprehensive accounting, compliance, and strategic financial management. Oversee accounting systems and protocols, manage investments and bonds, and provide detailed financial reports.

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting systems and protocols, ensuring best-practice procedures and use of SIS (Blackbaud) and other automated methods of commerce
• Ensure all activities and operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations and laws governing business operations
• Perform cash management, endowment, and investment accounting, including planned gifts and split-interest agreements
• Provide staff support for the Investment Committee
• Perform bond accounting, ensuring covenants are fulfilled, including annual debt management reports
• Prepare timely and detailed reports on financial performance on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
• Serve as a working member of the Retirement Plan Committee
• Conduct research, analysis, and forecasts as needed
• Engage in ongoing education and professional development, participating in industry association events

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Business/Accounting
• 5-10 years of related experience in accounting or finance
• Knowledgeable of accounting standards, audit, and internal control protocols
• Knowledgeable of all applicable federal and state statutes
• Demonstrated success in financial management (business processes, internal controls, process improvement)
• Strong technology skills, especially Microsoft Suite (Excel proficient) and Blackbaud products (BBTM, BBEM, Financial Edge NXT, Raiser’s Edge NXT)
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Business/Accounting
• five to ten years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

• CPA or CMA certification
• Experience in independent schools or similar environment
• Experience with ADP and Shopify products
• Experience with capital projects accounting
• Experience with planned giving
• Experience with endowment management
