About This Role

The Deputy Attorney General for Advisory provides legal counsel and guidance to state government clients and quasi-governmental bodies. This role involves researching and drafting legal documents, reviewing state contracts and rules, and supporting legislative matters.

Responsibilities

  • Research and draft formal opinions and legal memoranda to state government clients, statewide elected officials, county prosecutors, and quasi-governmental bodies
  • Assist state boards, commissions, and agencies in researching legal matters and conducting adjudicatory hearings
  • Review and approve state contracts, grants, leases, and memoranda of understanding for form and legality
  • Provide support and guidance on issues arising during state contract management
  • Review and approve administrative rules for form and legality
  • Review and prepare responses to public records requests submitted to the Office of the Attorney General
  • Serve as an administrative law judge upon request of a state government client
  • Provide legal counsel and associated services to state government clients and quasi-governmental bodies
  • Provide support and guidance to executive staff concerning legislative matters

Requirements

  • Strong research and writing skills
  • Capable of consistently meeting deadlines
  • Ability to analyze complex questions of law
  • Competently manage client relationships and communications
  • Effectively communicate with supervisors and colleagues

Qualifications

  • 3 – 5 years of experience actively practicing law

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of and experience with the Access to Public Records Act
  • Knowledge of and experience with the Administrative Orders and Procedures Act
