The Deputy Attorney General for Advisory provides legal counsel and guidance to state government clients and quasi-governmental bodies. This role involves researching and drafting legal documents, reviewing state contracts and rules, and supporting legislative matters.
Responsibilities
- Research and draft formal opinions and legal memoranda to state government clients, statewide elected officials, county prosecutors, and quasi-governmental bodies
- Assist state boards, commissions, and agencies in researching legal matters and conducting adjudicatory hearings
- Review and approve state contracts, grants, leases, and memoranda of understanding for form and legality
- Provide support and guidance on issues arising during state contract management
- Review and approve administrative rules for form and legality
- Review and prepare responses to public records requests submitted to the Office of the Attorney General
- Serve as an administrative law judge upon request of a state government client
- Provide legal counsel and associated services to state government clients and quasi-governmental bodies
- Provide support and guidance to executive staff concerning legislative matters
Requirements
- Strong research and writing skills
- Capable of consistently meeting deadlines
- Ability to analyze complex questions of law
- Competently manage client relationships and communications
- Effectively communicate with supervisors and colleagues
Qualifications
- 3 – 5 years of experience actively practicing law
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of and experience with the Access to Public Records Act
- Knowledge of and experience with the Administrative Orders and Procedures Act
