Corporate Underwriting Specialist

About This Role

The Corporate Underwriting Specialist will join our Corporate Underwriting Team to assist in developing and maintaining underwriting guidelines, ensuring adherence to risk appetite, and monitoring underwriting results. This role crucial to establishing consistency in underwriting decisions and providing support for complex referrals within the commercial middle market space.

Responsibilities

• Assist in establishing and ensuring adherence to risk appetite, risk selection, coverage analysis, underwriting guidelines, and underwriting authority.
• Assist in creating consistency in underwriting and pricing decisions and enhance monitoring standards to assess underwriting results at the portfolio level.
• Provide assistance and support for complex referrals.
• Acquire and leverage market intelligence to compare to peers’ and ensure a competitive fit for our agency customers.
• Work with Product leadership to develop new product ideas and review coverage language.
• Assist in underwriting governance by participating in underwriting audits, monitoring exception thresholds, and working with regional management on improvement plans.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
• Six years commercial lines underwriting experience
• Advanced knowledge of underwriting processes, coverages, tools, and company products and services
• Advanced knowledge of commercial insurance, underwriting, and risk control principles
• Excellent communication, negotiation, interpersonal, and organizational skills
• Advanced ability to analyze, define, and solve problems, use good judgment and decision-making
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent progressively responsible work experience
• Six years commercial lines underwriting experience.

Nice to Have

• CPCU, CIC or other advanced designation
