Construction Controller

About This Role

This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely job cost reporting, monthly close activities, and receivables management for construction projects. The Construction Controller provides critical financial visibility to project managers and leadership to support decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Submit the full VOWP package down to EBITDA level to corporate weekly by email
• Hold pre-job cost meetings with PMs and RVP, and attend Corporate job cost meeting by business day ten with all reports prepared
• Ensure books are complete and submitted to corporate by business day ten, with all reconciliations, accruals, and adjustments entered
• Send an actual vs. budget summary with explanations of major variances to the wider group by business day ten
• Complete a monthly review and analysis of indirect costs (labor burden, equipment, and shop allocations)
• Actively model teamwork and collaboration when working with operations, project managers, and corporate accounting
• Maintain consistent business hours starting around 8:00 AM
• Monitor aging reports weekly, identify at-risk accounts, and work with project teams to resolve outstanding balances
• Enter invoices and accruals accurately and within established timelines
• Meet with project managers to review job cost reports, identify discrepancies, and ensure costs are coded correctly
• Maintain detailed knowledge of assigned jobs’ financial status, including gross profit, margin erosion, under/over billings, and pending change orders
• Review billing packets for accuracy and completeness; prepare billing documents when required and ensure timely submission to clients
• Provide clear, concise updates to PMs on job cost status; coordinate with subcontractors to resolve billing or payment issues
• Track past-due receivables and actively follow up with PMs and clients to ensure resolution, documenting actions taken and keeping the Controller informed
