The Health Director is responsible for the 24-hour health and well-being of staff and campers at a conservation education camp, ensuring compliance with New York State Health Department requirements. This role oversees the camp infirmary, manages medications, and addresses health and safety concerns.
Responsibilities
- Distribute and monitor campers' medications
- Maintain records of all medications, injuries, and accidents as required by the Department of Health
- Monitor camp living quarters for health and safety concerns
- Work with the Camp Director to transport campers to and from local urgent care, emergency rooms, doctor offices, and field trip locations
- Meet parents/guardians during camper check-in to review medical forms
- Maintain the camp infirmary, monitor environmental and individual health, and prepare accident and illness reports
- Be on call 24/7 while camp is in session to accompany sick or injured campers to the hospital or urgent care
Requirements
- NYS certified as an EMT, Paramedic, LPN, RN, PA, or MD, or other person acceptable to the Department of Health permit-issuing official
- CPR/AED certification acceptable to the Department of Health & in its first year of certification
- Valid Driver's license
- Ability to work in remote areas
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions
