The Community Outreach Worker will teach classes and provide information on basic nutrition and physical activity to bilingual community members in Chicago, focusing on individuals and families in need. This role aims to help EFNEP eligible bilingual families make positive health changes. It involves program delivery, community collaboration, and reporting, requiring a valid driver's license and travel within the community.
Responsibilities
- Spend significant time in the community teaching programs for bilingual youth and adults using EFNEP curriculum and materials
- Gather and shop for required materials, prep food, and lead basic cooking and physical activities at community sites
- Develop relationships and provide approved nutrition education materials and resources to community members and organizations
- Promote EFNEP and Extension opportunities in bilingual communities
- Collaborate with team members to plan and monitor unit and EFNEP goals
- Refer bilingual EFNEP clients to other local agencies (Family Community Resource Centers, WIC, food pantries, etc.) and other Extension staff
- Collaborate with team members to find potential community partners that serve bilingual, low-income families
- Participate in committees and teams to give feedback that improves the EFNEP program
- Collect information from program participants for reports and complete required monthly and quarterly reports
- Participate in local, regional, and statewide professional development opportunities and staff meetings
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year (12 months) of experience (paid or unpaid) in work related to the job to be performed
- Bilingual Spanish speaking, reading, and writing skills
- Knowledge of the local bilingual community
- Ability to interact and engage diverse individuals and groups and speak in front of audiences
