Commercial Lines Underwriter

About This Role

This role involves underwriting new and renewal commercial lines insurance business, managing policy changes, and fostering client and carrier relationships to meet production targets. The underwriter will also provide leadership to a team of underwriters and brokers, ensuring adherence to company guidelines and policies.

Responsibilities

• Market, identify, solicit, and arrange appropriate insurance coverage for clients by accessing markets
• Underwrite new and renewal business, approving policy changes
• Develop and mentor staff
• Maintain workload and manage written business up to and including the time of binding
• Serve as an intermediary between the agent and the insurance company
• Ensure adherence to carrier underwriting guidelines and policies and procedures
• Solicit, market, quote, bind and confirm new and existing business
• Negotiate the best terms and coverages with accessible markets
• Monitor production, hit ratios, renewal retention ratios, spread of risks, and other production and quality measures
• Approve and disapprove endorsement/property authority requests

Requirements

• Must be licensed in corresponding areas of insurance
• Ability to understand and analyze necessary components of insurance policies
• Knowledge and experience in commercial multi-line underwriting and rating
• Leadership and team skills
• Good written and verbal skills

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or appropriate insurance designation
• Three years of experience in underwriting or brokering E&S insurance products
