This part-time Clerk I position assists customers with library services, including shelving materials, conducting materials handling processes, and providing basic computer assistance. It involves maintaining files, handling mail, and performing routine clerical and arithmetic tasks.
Responsibilities
- Assist customers with library services in person and by telephone
- Perform shelving and shelf-reading of library materials
- Conduct collection maintenance and materials handling processes (sorting, loading carts)
- Provide public computer assistance
- Maintain files of correspondence, forms, reports, and other materials
- Pick up, sort, and send out mail and packages
- Assist in proofreading various written materials
- Perform simple posting to subsidiary records and complete tabulations for reports
- Perform simple arithmetic calculations manually or using a calculator
- Answer phones and receive visitors, providing routine information or routing to appropriate personnel
Requirements
- Strong customer service orientation
- Computer competency including the ability to assist others with basic public computing needs
- Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with employees and the public
- Ability to learn office practices and procedures within a short period
- Ability to write legibly
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
