Cardiology Tech

About This Role

The Cardiovascular Technician is responsible for performing all non-invasive testing in the Cardiology Department with patients of all ages, including Electrocardiograms, Cardiac Stress Testing, Holter Monitoring, and Electroencephalograms. This role also involves technical, clinical, and clerical duties such as recording and processing EKG tracings for cardiac disorder diagnosis.

Responsibilities

• Review patient's medical records and obtain pertinent information for procedures
• Explain procedures to patients and prepare them for examinations
• Perform examinations according to established department procedures
• Apply electrodes to specified areas of patient's body
• Record wave tracings on an electrocardiograph for use in diagnoses of heart ailments
• Perform EEGs according to established policy and procedures
• Prepare graph records, scan, and document history for physician submission
• Perform clerical duties including filing, maintaining records, typing, and answering telephone
• Set up holter monitoring equipment and instruct patients on procedures
• Scan holter reports and report findings to physicians
• Assist physicians with treadmill procedures, operate treadmill, and record tracings during cardiac stress testing
• Log procedures and submit changes to the Billing Department
• Verify insurance coverage and book appointments
• Maintain established hospital and departmental policies, objectives, and standards
• Maintain professional growth and meet annual competency and retraining requirements

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• CPR training

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent

Nice to Have

• Completion of an EKG reading course (required within 6 months of hire if not completed)
• Demonstrated expertise with typing, Dictaphone, and medical terminology
