This Bioinformatician role provides support to a federal government customer, contributing to the development, deployment, and maintenance of the MicrobeTrace bioinformatics tool. The position involves evaluating synthetic data, software development, and presenting findings.
Responsibilities
- Develop and evaluate synthetic epidemiologic and molecular sequence datasets that mimic real world data to validate analytical tools, pipelines, and data systems
- Contribute to software development efforts using JavaScript, Typescript, and Angular
- Maintain regular communication with the customer, providing weekly updates, demonstrations, and reports
- Present findings and/or provide MicrobeTrace demonstrations at conferences, workshops, meetings, and in publications
- Train coworkers, collaborators, and state and federal partners to use new tools/platforms
- Provide support to the Web Software Developer to integrate with new bioinformatics tools and platforms and optimize visualizations
Requirements
- 2-3 years of experience in bioinformatics
- Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and platforms
- Experience developing and evaluating synthetic epidemiologic and molecular sequence datasets
- Experience presenting findings and/or technical demonstrations
- Demonstrated proactive approaches to troubleshooting issues and strong analytical decision-making capabilities
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
- Ability to pass required Federal background screening and obtain government clearance
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Microbiology, Biology, or closely related field required
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in bioinformatics, with desired experience in software development
Nice to Have
- Experience in software development using JavaScript, TypeScript and Angular
- Experience integrating and visualizing data
- Prior experience supporting CDC or similar US government client
