Provide compassionate, gold-standard veterinary care to avian and exotic patients at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists (GCVS). Monitor and treat patients, maintain detailed records, and ensure clear communication with doctors and clients.
Responsibilities
- Discharge patients and educate clients about medications and home care
- Provide financial estimates and inform clients about payment methods
- Invoice all patient services and admit patients into the hospital
- Fill prescriptions and obtain client permission for diagnostics or procedures
- Return client calls in priority order, relay messages and lab results to doctors
- Handle "Cold Calls" for potential new patients and contact referring veterinarians' offices
- Stock and clean common areas, assist with laundry, washing dishes, sweeping, and mopping
- Disinfect all equipment after each patient and collect samples for lab submission
- Submit, run, review, and interpret lab tests and cytologies
- Place IV catheters and administer medications
- Induce, maintain, and recover patients from anesthesia
- Assist in procedures such as CT, ear washes, allergy testing, biopsies, and laser procedures
- Attend all mandatory staff meetings and staff training
Requirements
- High School diploma
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to thrive under pressure in fast-paced situations
- Genuine passion for animal care and commitment to patient well-being
- Fluent English skills (speaking & reading)
Qualifications
- High School diploma is required, Associate's degree (A. A.) or Bachelors is preferred
- At least 2 years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant, prior experience with exotics/wildlife preferred
Nice to Have
- Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree (preferred)
- Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA) preferred
- At least 2 years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant
- Prior experience with exotics/wildlife is preferred
- Fluency in multiple languages
