Automation Engineer – Renewable Natural Gas

About This Role

Serve as a member of a collaborative project delivery team, responsible for the specification, programming, testing, and operational support of automation systems for Waga Energy’s WAGABOX® units. This role supports automation-related activities on all US WAGABOX® projects from FEED through commissioning and ongoing operations.

Responsibilities

• Design, analyze, and implement automation‑related process control systems
• Perform functional analyses for automation and control logic
• Define, analyze, and implement automation hardware and software architecture
• Manage the purchasing of automation‑related materials and services
• Develop, implement, and test PLC programs and HMI systems
• Conduct equipment communication tests and validate control system interfaces
• Prepare and execute Elements Important to Safety (EIS) test procedures related to automation
• Prepare and update automation‑related operating documents
• Support manufacturing, site activities, and plant commissioning from an automation perspective
• Manage acceptance of automation‑related equipment from subcontractors

Requirements

• Strong understanding of industrial automation standards and industrial communication protocols
• Hands‑on experience developing, programming, and troubleshooting industrial PLC systems
• Hands‑on experience designing and implementing HMI/SCADA systems
• Hands‑on experience integrating field devices, analyzers, and instrumentation into PLC/HMI systems
• Hands‑on experience configuring and troubleshooting network switches, VLANs, and industrial Ethernet architectures
• Hands‑on experience supporting FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and SAT (Site Acceptance Testing)
• Hands‑on experience preparing and executing Elements Important to Safety (EIS) test procedures
• Hands‑on experience performing I/O checkout, loop testing, and system validation during commissioning
• Hands‑on experience troubleshooting automation issues during startup, including communication faults, logic errors, and instrumentation integration
• Ability to interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, and control system architecture drawings
• Familiarity with process instrumentation (pressure, flow, temperature, gas analyzers) and their signal types
• Experience with safety PLCs, safety relays, and safety‑rated instrumentation
• Proficiency with SIEMENS TIA Portal, PCVUE or similar SCADA/HMI platforms
• Proficiency with AutoCAD/DraftSight for reviewing control panel drawings and wiring diagrams
• Strong Excel skills for data analysis, trending, and documentation
• Strong analytical and organizational skills
• Excellent written & verbal communication skills

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, automation engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in an automation‑focused role within gas engineering, industrial process systems, or a related industry
