Attorney Advisor (General)

About This Role

Serve as the principal legal advisor to Division personnel for the New England Division of the DEA, providing guidance on all aspects of DEA operations covering criminal, civil, and administrative law.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the principal legal advisor to Division personnel in all aspects of DEA operations covering criminal, civil, and administrative law
• Provide advice concerning search and seizure, electronic surveillance, investigative methods and techniques, interrogation, evidence, discovery, personnel and employment issues, asset forfeiture, fiscal law, policy guidance and compliance, and international issues
• Provide advice, opinions, and guidance to the Special Agent in Charge (SAC) and members of the Division leadership team on legal issues
• Work with federal and state prosecutors, and federal, state and local law enforcement partners to further DEA's mission
• Provide support in criminal, civil, and administrative litigation
• Prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, and memorandum opinions
• Train DEA personnel in complex issues of law and policy

Requirements

• Active member of a Bar Association in good standing (any U.S. jurisdiction)
• J.D. degree
• Excellent academic credentials
• Strong oral and written advocacy skills
• Superior legal research and analytical skills
• Demonstrated ability to learn and master new areas of the law
• Demonstrated ability to function with minimal guidance in a highly demanding environment
• U.S. Citizen
• Must be able to obtain and maintain Top-Secret Security Clearance
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service

Qualifications

• J.D. degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association
• 4+ years of post J.D. legal experience for GS-15 grade level, and 10 years of legal experience is strongly preferred overall.
