Associate Medical Director

About This Role

This role involves providing medical direction and oversight for hospice care, ensuring compliance with regulations, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to manage patient palliation and care. The Associate Medical Director will also be responsible for patient care, clinical supervision, education, and quality improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Provide medical direction and oversight of clinical aspects of the hospice care program, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations
• Collaborate with attending physicians to manage palliation and care of terminal illness as part of the Plan of Care (POC)
• Address medical needs of patients if the attending physician is unavailable
• Review and help implement patient care policies, ensuring tailored care plans for specific medical needs
• Provide clinical guidance to the interdisciplinary team and offer consultation on complex medical cases
• Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations for the hospice program
• Provide education and training to hospice staff on medical care, hospice policies, and regulatory compliance
• Actively participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities, reviewing patient care outcomes and recommending improvements
• Complete certification of terminal illness and subsequent recertifications as required by CMS and other relevant agencies
• Provide services and visits to hospice patients according to the POC, with express authorization from Hospice
• Provide 24-hour on-call coverage for medical emergencies and patient care concerns outside regular hours
• Maintain accurate, timely records reflecting all services provided and submit documentation weekly

Requirements

• Current license to practice medicine in the state (or states) where the Hospice is located
