About This Role

The Assistant Professor of Industrial Design will develop and teach courses in furniture and product design, materials, and processes, contributing to student success and program development. This role requires maintaining a high level of scholarly/creative work and active participation in departmental governance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and teach courses in upper and lower-level studios in both furniture and product design
  • Teach materials and processes courses and other support courses in the industrial design program
  • Advise students
  • Recruit new students
  • Maintain labs and materials
  • Contribute to program development
  • Provide instruction that fosters student success
  • Participate actively in departmental governance
  • Perform academic service to the university and college
  • Maintain a high level of related scholarly/creative work

Requirements

  • Terminal degree in Industrial Design (Master’s or higher) or a related field
  • Potential for nationally recognized creative and/or scholarly research in their field
  • Professional design experience

Qualifications

  • A terminal degree in Industrial Design (Master’s or higher) or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience at the college level, plus professional design experience

Nice to Have

  • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience at the college level
  • Strong furniture design skills
  • Strong fabrication skills
  • Advanced CAD skills
