This Mid-Level Architect position focuses on public buildings, performing various design expertise duties primarily for municipal and government projects. The role ensures client satisfaction and business results by managing projects, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to design and project management.
Responsibilities
- Serve as lead architect for projects across our public buildings market through directing the delivery of projects in compliance with Shive-Hattery standards
- Participate and contribute in design and project management through design reviews, idea generation, collaboration, and design work in drawing, modeling and 3D image formats
- Perform architectural assignments under general supervision, independently performing most assignments with instructions as to the general expected results
- Direct and mentor junior staff to design, produce and coordinate the design process and technical documents
- Attend project and client meetings with design professionals for projects under contract
- Present to clients during interviews for new work or discussions of expanding services to existing clients
- Lead discussions concerning sustainable and resilient design practices to determine approaches benefiting project stakeholders to include in design intent documents
- Support senior staff on content development for project meetings on medium and large sized projects with varying complexity
- Collaborate with local office leadership and firmwide Market leadership on select business development opportunities
- Coordinate with internal and external engineering disciplines for project design and deliverables
- Oversee the development of a complete contract document set for small to medium size projects
Requirements
- 5 to 7 years' experience in the practice of architecture
- Registration as a licensed architect
- Completion of accredited professional degree program with a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in architecture, or equivalent
- Capable of managing and/or supervising project teams of architects, engineers, and designers of medium and large projects
- Demonstrate a high degree of aptitude in critical, creative thinking associated with design and the design process
- Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of architectural specifications, international building codes, life safety code and current ADA requirements
- Knowledge of programming, planning, and building performance
- Self-motivated and able to problem-solve independently
- Strong working knowledge of Autodesk Revit, Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft Office, and Google SketchUp
- Excellent communication skills
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in architecture, or equivalent in appropriate education and experience
- 5 to 7 years' experience in the practice of architecture
Nice to Have
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD
- Participation in applicable AIA, NCARB, and/or community activities
