About This Role

This Advanced Automation / Controls Engineer role leads the entire controls engineering scope for small-to-medium projects, ensuring continuity, maintainability, and long-term support within cleanroom and cGMP environments. The engineer will also elevate safety, reliability, robustness, and serviceability while mentoring junior engineers and technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Lead entire controls engineering scope independently for small-to-medium projects
  • Ensure continuity, maintainability, and long-term support within cleanroom and cGMP environments
  • Elevate safety, reliability, robustness, and serviceability of control systems
  • Delegate tasks to technicians and junior engineers as appropriate
  • Provide initial first-line support at startup and transition to Manufacturing Engineering and Maintenance as second-line support
  • Plan project scope, schedule, budget, risks, and dependencies; deliver on time and within budget
  • Coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders and suppliers
  • Author and review P&IDs, electrical schematics, pneumatic diagrams, and panel/device layouts
  • Design and validate safety circuits; configure operator interfaces, relays/contactors, transducers, pneumatics, motors/drives
  • Develop maintainable ladder logic architectures and HMI UX, robust signal conditioning, PID and sequencing
  • Design and implement SCADA integrations including security, alarming, data logging/visualization, and scripting
  • Define and execute test plans, lead root cause analysis, implement corrective actions, and document lessons learned
  • Support cGMP validation (IQ/OQ/PQ) and ensure comprehensive records and traceability
  • Drive reliability and uptime improvements; contribute to standards and design-for-maintenance/safety enhancements

Requirements

  • 6+ years related controls/automation experience
  • Prior industry exposure (preferred)
  • Working knowledge of NEC, UL, CE codes/standards
  • Proficient in AutoCAD (Mechanical or Electrical)
  • Strong ladder logic and HMI development
  • Modular code organization and robust fault handling
  • Advanced motion control (servo) capability for single- and multi-axis systems
  • Managed local networking and remote connectivity using routers
  • Hands-on SCADA integration experience
  • Intermediate Python and SQL for scripting/data
  • Basic database table design and reporting strategies
  • Demonstrated independent commissioning of multiple unique systems of moderate complexity

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or similar) in a relevant discipline; equivalent experience considered.
  • 6+ years related controls/automation experience with prior industry exposure preferred.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with hazardous-area design/compliance (Class I Div 1/Div 2, intrinsically safe circuits, explosion-proof enclosures)
