Adult Education ESL Instructor

About This Role

The Adult Education ESL Instructor provides daily instruction and supervision to adult learners, assisting them in achieving literacy, employment-necessary skills, and self-sufficiency. This role supports adults and their families in educational development.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction to students in math, reading, writing, social studies, and science, assisting them to pass the Hi-Set exam
• Instruct students at multiple academic levels in traditional and online formats, blending digital literacy and career readiness into the curriculum
• Prepare lessons and teaching materials to develop students' daily living and employment skills according to program curriculum
• Utilize technology, databases, Microsoft, and Adobe for effective communication and to collect feedback for the Program Manager
• Participate in meetings and events to align instruction, monitor progress, identify issues, and build curriculum, while collaborating with staff to improve student success
• Evaluate students' basic skills progress regularly based on curriculum and tests
• Maintain current records on all students, including accurate attendance records and class analysis summaries
• Attend a minimum of 8 hours of professional development annually
• Travel to campus and satellite locations as needed

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Education or closely related field
• Two years of directly related experience in Adult Education, Basic Skills, or literacy program
• Knowledge and experience with standardized assessment instruments and effective teaching methods for adult education
• Demonstrated proficiency in MOS and a database system
• Ability to create standard and/or new reports with limited oversight
• Prior use of online and classroom platforms and websites
• Experience with technology and equipment
• Familiarity with computers, e-mail, and word processing
• Ability to work independently as a team

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Education or closely related field
• Two years of directly related experience that included working with an Adult Education, Basic Skills or literacy program serving diverse populations

Nice to Have

• Master's Degree in Education or closely related field
• Knowledge and certification of a subject area (i.e. Math)
• Experience with Canvas, Aztek, Burlington English
• Bilingual
