Admissions Counselor

About This Role

This role is for an Admissions Counselor to facilitate admissions, conduct clinical intake assessments, and manage utilization review processes to ensure appropriate patient care and resource utilization within Tufts Medicine Behavioral Health Hospital.

Responsibilities

• Respond to inquiries about the facility within policy timeframes
• Develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families
• Perform benefit eligibility checks and communicate findings to relevant parties
• Collaborate with medical and psychiatric personnel on referral recommendations
• Coordinate admissions and transfers from referral sources and between care levels
• Maintain knowledge of milieu management
• Communicate projected admissions to internal representatives promptly
• Ensure all clinical information from referral sources is received prior to admission
• Schedule and complete pre-admission assessments, consult with the admitting physician, and communicate disposition recommendations
• Prepare and maintain appropriate medical record documentation for payor authorization
• Complete initial pre-authorization for treatment and admission
• Admit patients in the registration and accounting system, completing all forms
• Demonstrate a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude towards customers
• Acknowledge and work to resolve complaints, prioritizing patient safety
• Coordinate care for non-admitted patients, ensuring appropriate follow-up and referrals
• Conduct safety checks and ensure supervision at required intervals

Requirements

• Master's degree in a social services field or RN
• CPR certification
• De-escalation/restraint certification

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a social services field (psychology, counseling, social work, sociology, health administration, nursing) or RN required
• One or more years’ experience in mental/behavioral health working with individuals in a clinical or observational capacity preferred

Nice to Have

• One or more years’ experience in mental/behavioral health
• Current state LMHC licensure
