This position is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating therapeutic recreation and leisure programs for psychiatric patients. The goal is to maximize the social, physical, cognitive, and emotional functioning of patients to achieve a desirable quality of leisure life.
Responsibilities
- Plan Therapeutic Recreation and leisure programs for psychiatric patients
- Organize Therapeutic Recreation and leisure programs for psychiatric patients
- Implement Therapeutic Recreation and leisure programs for psychiatric patients
- Evaluate Therapeutic Recreation and leisure programs for psychiatric patients
- Conduct group leisure time activities
- Conduct physical education activities designed to maximize patient functioning
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of therapeutic recreation, physical education, dance movement, music therapy or related field
- 1+ year of experience providing instruction in a recreational program or closely related work
- Certification or Licensure as a Recreational, Occupational, Music, Art, or Yoga Therapist
- BLS (Basic Life Support) Healthcare Provider course completion (during new hire orientation)
- Handle with Care training completion (during new hire orientation)
- Verbal De-Escalation training completion (during new hire orientation)
- Ability to encourage and appropriately support others
- Knowledge of and skill in evaluating and treating adolescent, adult, and geriatric persons with psychosocial and cognitive problems
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with people of differing educational and cultural backgrounds
- Organized and able to prioritize activities
- Cognizant of age appropriate activities
- Practices teamwork
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of therapeutic recreation, physical education, dance movement, music therapy or related field.
- At least one (1) year of experience providing instruction in a recreational program; or in a closely related work; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Previous experience in behavioral healthcare strongly preferred.
