Youth Care Worker - Cook

About This Role

Implement daily therapeutic programming for youth, engaging them in skill-building activities and documenting interactions. Ensure the safety of youth and co-workers within a therapeutic environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepares nutritious and attractive meals and snacks according to menus and health standards
• Plans and orders food and related supplies for meal preparation
• Prepares special meals for holidays and events
• Assures proper storage of all food items
• Maintains hygienic conditions in kitchen and dining area and cleans major appliances weekly
• Provides direction and oversight to cottage residents to develop cooking and cleaning skills
• Responds to behavioral issues and participates in client restraint when necessary
• Maintains accurate records in accordance with agency policy and state requirements
• Engages youth in daily therapeutic activities to develop social, emotional, and life skills
• Ensures the safety of youth, self, and co-workers using positive relationships and TCI techniques

Requirements

• Ability to learn and implement the CARE practice model
• Ability to learn TCI curriculum and pass written and physical restraint tests
• Must be emotionally mature, patient, and communicate empathy toward youth
• Meet DCFS/CANTS Clearance Requirements
• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
• Maintain proof of automobile insurance

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in Human Services and related experience preferred
