The Yard Jockey is responsible for the safe and efficient movement, inspection, and control of company trucks, trailers, and moving equipment. This role is crucial for maintaining fleet readiness, equipment accountability, and yard organization.
Responsibilities
- Safely move trucks and trailers between yards, parking areas, docks, and staging zones
- Position vehicles for dispatch, loading, unloading, storage, and long-distance operations
- Perform vehicle check-in and check-out procedures, including visual safety inspections
- Identify, document, and report vehicle damage, defects, or safety concerns immediately
- Verify and account for moving equipment (blankets, straps, bars, dollies, ramps)
- Maintain organized parking, clear traffic lanes, and safe yard flow
- Transport units to and from maintenance or service locations as directed
- Monitor off-site parking to ensure compliance and prevent tickets or violations
- Complete required logs, inspection forms, and yard movement documentation
- Support long-distance operations, staging, and fleet readiness as assigned
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license
- CDL Class A
- Ability to safely operate tractors and trailers in tight yard conditions
Qualifications
- Prior experience in a moving company, trucking, or yard environment preferred
