WordPress Support Engineer

About This Role

As a WordPress Support Engineer, you will resolve WordPress issues, improve performance, and maintain secure, stable sites for agencies and growing businesses. You will troubleshoot, diagnose, and assist with various WordPress and hosting-related tasks, communicating clearly with customers.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot WordPress issues (errors, white screens, plugin conflicts, broken updates, etc.)
• Diagnose and resolve performance problems (slow queries, caching issues, high CPU usage)
• Assist with WordPress migrations, staging sites, and production deployments
• Run updates for WordPress sites (core, themes, and plugins)
• Work with hosting tools (SSH, WP-CLI, cPanel/WHM, or similar environments)
• Communicate clearly with customers via tickets and internal tools
• Document solutions and contribute to internal knowledge bases
• Escalate complex issues with clear technical context when needed

Requirements

• Strong experience supporting WordPress in production environments
• Solid understanding of WordPress core, themes, and plugins
• Solid understanding of PHP and MySQL (debugging and reading code)
• Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript
• Experience with WP-CLI
• Experience with caching systems (object cache, page cache, CDN concepts)
• Experience with Linux hosting environments
• Understanding of DNS basics
• Ability to troubleshoot issues methodically and independently
• Excellent written communication skills

Qualifications

• Strong experience supporting WordPress in production environments

Nice to Have

• Leading a Support Team
• Hosting provider experience
• Familiarity with tools like New Relic, Query Monitor
• CloudFlare and other technologies
• Experience supporting WordPress agencies or high-traffic sites
