Woodyard Technician

About This Role

The Woodyard Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of chip mill and woodyard activities, including heavy equipment operation, material handling, chip production, barge loading, and general maintenance. This role ensures safety, productivity, and environmental compliance.

Responsibilities

• Operate cranes and knuckle boom loaders safely and efficiently
• Operate heavy equipment such as front-end loaders, skid loaders, man lifts, and other rolling stock
• Operate the chipper and support chip production processes
• Prepare, sharpen, and maintain chipper knives
• Operate log haul trucks within the woodyard
• Load mulch and wood chips onto barges at the Cadron Creek location
• Support wet storage installation, maintenance, and removal activities
• Perform routine and preventative maintenance on mill and yard equipment
• Assist with emergency work and unplanned maintenance when required
• Follow all safety, environmental, and quality procedures

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Ability to read and write
• Willingness and ability to be trained in safety and quality work processes
• Strong teamwork and communication skills
• Flexibility to work extended hours (10–14 hour shifts), weekends, and swing shifts with short notice

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Entry level

Nice to Have

• Previous experience operating heavy equipment (knuckle boom loader, front-end loader, skid loader, man lift, etc.)
• Experience performing routine equipment maintenance
