Wind Technician

About This Role

This role involves performing maintenance on wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electric components to ensure safe, effective, efficient, and profitable wind turbine operation. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, repair, and documentation of work performed.

Responsibilities

• Follow safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment
• Assist in the performance of wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical component maintenance
• Document all work performed, parts used, and time spent using computer-based service reporting procedures
• Assist in troubleshooting and repair of SCADA communication systems
• Operate and maintain a service vehicle
• Maintain hand tools in good working order and well organized
• Work a flexible on-call schedule including weeknights, weekends, and holidays
• Help in all areas of site operations as directed by Site Lead and Site Manager with minimal supervision
• Troubleshoot complicated mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems on variable pitch, variable speed wind turbines
• Read and understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams

Requirements

• Ability to climb towers unassisted up to 300 feet
• Ability to work safely in a confined space
• Demonstrable mechanical aptitude and basic electrical knowledge
• Ability to work with electrical wires and differentiate between color coded wires
• Ability to safely work in a wide range of adverse climates and environments
• Knowledge of and ability to use various hand tools
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
• Ability to work without direct supervision
• Ability to create, edit or modify Microsoft Word and Excel documents
• Ability to meet the requirements of Clearway Energy Group's Qualified Electrical Worker program

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED required or willing to obtain within the first 6 months of employment. Associate's degree (electrical or technical) preferred for higher levels.
• Entry-level; 6 months of turbine experience for Level II, 2 years for Level III with Associate's degree, or 1-3 years with high school diploma/GED.

Nice to Have

• Ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams
• Previous experience in SAP
