WIC Nutrition Assistant

About This Role

This role provides nutrition counseling to WIC participants following California WIC Program guidelines. The WNA is responsible for participant enrollment, recertification, nutrition evaluation, education, and issuing Food Instruments.

Responsibilities

• Conduct nutrition assessments for low-risk WIC participants
• Evaluate height, weight, and lab values from medical forms
• Evaluate nutrition questionnaires and prioritize nutrition risks
• Provide nutrition counseling on ISIS generated risks or participant choice
• Encourage and support breastfeeding education for all pregnant participants
• Facilitate/conduct group education classes
• Enter all data, labs, height/weight, and demographic information into ISIS correctly
• Document nutrition education contacts on the Nutrition Education screen for each participant
• Prescribe the correct food package for the participant
• Make the correct appointment in the correct clinic for the participant

Requirements

• High School Diploma
• Successful completion of Nutrition 101 or equivalent
• California driver’s license
• Current car insurance
• Must begin California WIC Program Nutrition Assistant certification within 9 months of employment

Qualifications

• High School Diploma and successful completion of Nutrition 101 or equivalent, OR a BS/MS Degree in Food Nutrition Dietetics or a related field
• 2 years of experience as a WIC Clerk preferred

Nice to Have

• BS/MS Degree in Food Nutrition Dietetics or a related field
• 2 years of experience as a WIC Clerk
