Vice President of Software Engineering

About This Role

This is an equity-partner role for a Vice President of Software Engineering to own the end-to-end delivery, scalability, and reliability of core platforms for content production, game studio engine, and AI-driven products. The role involves building and leading high-performing, distributed engineering teams and setting technical strategy for Anime Universe.

Responsibilities

• Define multi-year engineering roadmaps aligned to product vision and balancing innovation with operational excellence
• Recruit, mentor, and scale distributed squads fostering an ownership-driven, “invent-and-build” culture
• Establish coding standards, microservices frameworks, DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and QA/testing practices to ensure reliability and performance at scale
• Partner closely with Product, R&D, Legal, and Operations to integrate APIs, data pipelines, and security/compliance measures seamlessly
• Own SRE and security posture, implement monitoring, incident response, and vulnerability management for zero-downtime and data integrity
• Define and track key metrics (deployment frequency, MTTR, code coverage, performance SLIs) and drive continuous improvement

Requirements

• 12+ years in software engineering
• 5+ years leading at Director/VP level in high-growth tech, anime/media or gaming companies
• Deep expertise architecting scalable microservices, real-time engines, and cloud-native platforms
• Hands-on with Kubernetes, CI/CD automation, observability stacks, and incident management
• Proven track record implementing secure development lifecycles and compliance (ISO27001, SOC2, GDPR)
• Demonstrated success leading global, remote engineering teams

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
• 12+ years of software engineering experience, with significant startup or scale-up background, and 5+ years leading at Director/VP level
