This role involves providing outreach and education services to Veterans and their families, with an emphasis on suicide risk screening and prevention. The coordinator will also educate the community on suicide warning signs, prevention, and protective factors.
Responsibilities
- Provide outreach and education services to Veterans and their families
- Screen for suicide risk and provide suicide prevention services
- Educate the community on suicide warning sign recognition, prevention, and protective factors
- Inform the community about the SSG Fox SPGP and the East Texas Veterans Resource Center
- Administer grant activities according to VA's SSG Fox SPGP guidelines
- Participate in community Veteran events, including hosting outreach, education, and training workshops
- Provide Veterans and their families with baseline mental health screenings, crisis referrals, temporary income support, case management, and lethal means safety devices
- Maintain secure, confidential files consistent with funder and organizational standards
Requirements
- Veteran status
- Working knowledge of military culture
- Ability to access the VA system and community resources
- Ability to perform lifesaving activities such as CPR and SAMA techniques
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher
Certifications
Mental Health Peer Specialist training certification (after completion)
