Vertical Band Saw Operator - Machinist

About This Role

Operate a vertical band saw to cut steel according to specifications and drawings, ensuring cut materials are accurately staged for fabrication while maintaining safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Review and interpret written work instructions
• Operate vertical/horizontal band saws
• Use saw to cut test specimens according to prescribed spec or work order
• Interpret basic blueprints and drawings
• Accurately use basic measuring devices, including tape measure, caliper, and micrometer
• Operate surface grinding equipment
• Effectively prioritize workload and use of available resources within time constraints
• Stage cut material for fabrication
• Observe proper safety procedures in a machine shop environment

Requirements

• Ability to read a ruler/tape measure to the 1/16th of an inch
• Ability to add, subtract and simplify fractions
• Able to understand basic blueprints
• Ability to operate a forklift, overhead crane and jib hoist (training provided if needed)
• Ability to operate pneumatic and electric grinders and basic hand tools
