About This Role

The Utility/Dietary Aide coordinates various activities to serve patients, employees, and customers, including food preparation, delivery, dishwashing, and general cleaning while maintaining sanitation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare full liquid food and puree food for modified diets following department standards and safe food handling procedures
  • Return unused items to designated areas, sealed and with date labels attached
  • Scrape, pre-wash, pre-rinse, operate, and maintain dishwashing machine to wash and sanitize all china, glassware, trays, and domes
  • Calculate patient diets, record, and post diet count, providing a list of selected food items for preparation areas
  • Arrange assigned food items and condiments on trays for regular and modified diets during patient tray line service, ensuring timely delivery
  • Load individual milk cartons in iced down containers for transportation to nursing floors on food carts
  • Check, deliver, and document time of food tray delivery to meet meal schedule
  • Set up trays, wrap silverware, bag rolls, and stock condiments and disposable items, returning unused items to designated areas
  • Prepare and deliver new, delayed, and resumed diets, and special food requests, inventorying and restocking nourishment room floor stock
  • Move clean, sanitized dishes from dish racks, observing for cleanliness, allowing to air dry, and putting in designated areas
  • Organize and maintain tray line equipment, beverage, and work area
  • Sanitize inside and outside of carts after every meal
  • Prepare beverages and pour into containers for patients, cafeteria, and special functions according to count
  • Dispose of trash, boxes, cans, broken glass, and cold grease according to policy and procedure
  • Sweep and mop kitchen, cafeteria, corridor, all storage rooms, and freezer, removing debris and wet spills from the floor
  • Perform special floor scrubbing, clean and assist in cleaning pots, pans, utensils, and equipment used in food preparation and service
  • Stock groceries in designated areas using FI-FO method, and stock incoming chemicals and paper products
  • Wash pots and pans
  • Assist in lifting heavy food items into and removal from oven
  • Lift heavy food items, chemicals, and supplies for other Food & Nutrition employees
  • Restock sodas and cafeteria as needed
  • Train new employees in the position when necessary

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to read and understand hazard chemical labels
  • Ability to lift heavy food items, chemicals, and supplies up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Knowledge of hazardous chemicals

Qualifications

  • Minimum of grammar school. High school preferred.
  • Preferably six months experience in institutional and volume feeding and standardized recipes, with knowledge of safe food handling procedures.
