Unit Secretary NICU

About This Role

The Unit Secretary provides essential secretarial and receptionist duties within the NICU, supporting the smooth operation of the unit and contributing to patient-centered care. This role involves assisting with patient flow, coordinating diagnostic testing, and maintaining supplies and equipment under the supervision of a registered nurse.

Responsibilities

• Perform secretarial and receptionist duties for the assigned unit/department.
• Greet and screen the public upon arrival to the unit/department.
• Recognize potentially dangerous situations and take appropriate action.
• Assist with facilitating optimal patient flow.
• Coordinate diagnostic testing as ordered by physicians and/or nurse practitioners.
• Maintain supplies, equipment, and forms for the unit.
• Utilize interpersonal skills to maximize customer service, safety, and professionalism.
• Contribute to a work environment of caring and cooperation.
• Perform other duties as needed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology
• Knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
• Knowledge of patient rights
• Able to read and write legibly
• Able to speak in English
• Able to use computer, printer, and software programs
• Able to operate and troubleshoot equipment for the position

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required
• Minimum one year of unit secretary experience preferred, or minimum one year of experience in medical field.
