Undergraduate Technical Intern – Mechanical Design

About This Role

Intern for mechanical design duties, CAD activities, and fabricating components. Help develop innovative, sustainable processes to manufacture materials and components.

Responsibilities

• Learn about and help to develop state-of-the-art approaches to metals manufacturing
• Be involved in computer aided drawing (CAD) activities
• Support activities related to design and fabrication of fixturing and equipment
• Complete detail drawings and solid modeling under the direction of a CAD engineer
• Support getting parts fabricated, including interacting with machinists, creating work orders, obtaining quotes, and setting up purchase requests
• Interact with other engineers and scientists in design reviews

Requirements

• Degree-seeking undergraduate student enrolled at an accredited college or university
• Taking at least 6 credit hours
• Overall cumulative GPA of 2.50

Qualifications

• High school diploma /GED or higher

Nice to Have

• Knowledge of generating technical manufacturing drawings
• Familiarity with common manufacturing methods, including milling, turning, sheet metal, and 3D printing
• Experience working with or around mechanical systems, including making repairs or modifications
• Strong communication skills, capable of presenting and receiving technical information concisely and efficiently
• Proven ability to learn independently and adapt quickly to new concepts
• Strong inclination to proactively take initiative with details necessary to drive tasks to success
