The Tribal General Counsel serves as the Chief Legal Counsel to the Seminole Tribe of Florida Tribal Council and Executive leadership, providing expert legal guidance on a broad range of matters. This role protects the Tribe’s legal interests, ensures compliance with federal, state, and Tribal laws, and advises on governance, contracts, and litigation.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the Chief Legal Counsel to the Seminole Tribe of Florida Tribal Council and executive leadership
- Provide expert legal guidance on matters affecting the Tribe
- Protect the Tribe’s legal interests
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and Tribal laws
- Advise on governance, contracts, litigation, employment law, and regulatory issues
- Draft and review legal documents
- Represent the Tribe in negotiations and legal proceedings before Federal and State Courts, Tribunals, Departments, agencies, and committees of Congress and State Legislatures
- Coordinate and oversee the use of outside legal resources
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school
- 10+ years of relevant legal experience focusing on federal Indian law, Tribal governance, or public law
- Member of the Florida Bar Association, in good standing and eligible to practice
- Knowledge of Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA) Class II and Class III, including gaming regulations and compliance
- Strong expertise in Tribal/Native American legal matters (finance, Tribal land ordinances, employment, governance)
- Comprehensive knowledge of commercial and other legal matters (compliance, contracts, employment law, intellectual property)
- Experience managing business entities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong writing, analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and verbal communication abilities
- Ability to travel and work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association
- Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant legal experience with a focus on federal Indian law, Tribal governance, or public law
