Trial Attorney - Subrogation

About This Role

Provide legal representation for Intact's subrogation interests in property, financial, and cyber matters. Handle a consistent workload of subrogation files and advise claim employees.

Responsibilities

• Handle a consistent workload of subrogation files representing Intact’s subrogation interests in property, financial and cyber matters
• Maintain and complete caseload, pre-suit investigation and trial work of some complexity, whether by settlement, trial or appeal
• Work with Lead Attorney on all aspects of pre-suit and litigated files including retaining experts, sending pre-suit notice letters, coordinating joint inspections and exams, initiating litigation and conducting all phases of litigation through trial
• Conduct all appropriate legal action to best protect the subrogation and recovery interests of Intact on all assigned cases in an ethical and zealous manner
• Prepare appeals and perform necessary research on motions
• Obtain requisite authority from Subrogation Claims to negotiate settlements with defense counsel
• Interface and provide counsel to Intact’s Subrogation Claims department as files develop through pre-suit, litigation, trial or resolution
• Review and report all large loss cases to Lead Attorney, prepare timely reports as required and schedules/attends conferences with Subro Claims to review and discuss assigned files
• Maintain a strong professional knowledge of legal environments and apply this information effectively
• Interface with and direct paralegals and other staff in the production of documents and litigation file management

Requirements

• 5-7 years of experience litigating property subrogation claims
• Substantial experience with research, discovery depositions, mediations and trial preparation
• JD
