Triage Nurse RN - Neurology

About This Role

Provide telephone triage services for neurology patients, assessing their needs, prioritizing care, and relaying information to providers, while also educating patients and families.

Responsibilities

• Perform telephone triage to determine patient needs by recording and reporting patient condition to provider and advising patient based on provider instructions.
• Receive and return patient calls within 90 minutes based on medical priority.
• Accurately record and report patient's condition according to department policy.
• Strictly adhere to practice protocols and consult patient's chart while talking to the patient.
• Return phone messages and provide test results according to protocol.
• Educate/instruct patients according to providers' direction and recommend appropriate community resources.
• Prepare, assist, and instruct patients for examinations and treatment.
• Inform family members on health care education topics.
• Handle prescription renewals/inquiries, discussing questions with providers and relaying information to pharmacies.
• Perform and document nursing assessments, developing a plan of care based on nursing judgment.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (RN)
• Minimum 1 year clinical experience
• Current valid Registered Nurse (RN) license, valid compact multistate license, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure
• Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures
• Knowledge of medicine including recognizing and diagnosed diseases, deformities, and other illnesses
• Strong verbal communication skills

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (RN)
• Minimum 1 year clinical experience
