About This Role

Perform internal quality assessments on medical coders and coordinate day-to-day coding educational activities within a healthcare setting. This role ensures compliance with national coding guidelines and OUH policies for accurate and consistent coding, improving accuracy and integrity of patient data.

Responsibilities

  • Perform internal quality assessment reviews on OUH coders to ensure compliance with national coding guidelines and OUH coding policies for accurate and consistent coding
  • Coordinate and direct day-to-day coding educational activities
  • Facilitate and provide coding educational classes/presentations to staff as needed
  • Communicate outcomes to improve accuracy, integrity, and quality of patient data and physician documentation
  • Assist Coding Leadership in root cause analysis of coding quality issues, perform account reviews, and prepare training documents
  • Respond to coding-related questions from HSC coding staff
  • Lead and perform all functions of quality reviews for inpatient and outpatient coding across OUMS
  • Provide Coding Integrity Specialist (CIS) and CQR education as needed
  • Monitor QA results to assist Coding Leadership in root cause analysis and educational opportunities
  • Coaches and mentors coding staff to develop coding skills and provides skilled coding support

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years acute care inpatient/outpatient coding experience
  • RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CPC certification
  • Expert level knowledge of medical coding practices and concepts
  • Extensive regulatory coding (ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT-4, Modifiers, MS-DRGs, POA assignment, APR-DRGs, APCs) and reimbursement knowledge
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or GED equivalent required; undergraduate degree in HIM/HIT preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years acute care inpatient/outpatient coding experience required. Minimum of 3 years coding auditing/monitoring experience strongly preferred. Proven work experience in areas of coding education strongly preferred.
