Transportation Manager

About This Role

This role involves overseeing the efficient and effective transportation, storage, and distribution of goods, ensuring timely delivery and cost optimization. The Transportation Manager will lead a logistics team, manage DOT compliance for CDL drivers, and collaborate with other departments to enhance supply chain operations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement logistics strategies and plans
• Optimize transportation routes and warehouse layouts to minimize costs and improve efficiency
• Monitor and forecast logistics costs and prepare budgets
• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the logistics team
• Ensure timely and accurate delivery of products
• Negotiate contracts and rates with suppliers, carriers, and third-party logistics providers
• Maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure reliability and quality of service
• Ensure compliance with local, national, and international regulations regarding transportation and storage
• Develop and implement safety procedures to protect employees and goods
• Implement and maintain logistics software systems to streamline operations
• Ensure all transportation operations adhere to DOT regulations and standards
• Oversee vehicle maintenance and inspection programs
• Recruit, train, and supervise logistics personnel

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field
• 4+ years of relevant logistics experience in a related industry
• 1-3 years of experience in supervision of direct reports
• Strong understanding of logistics and inventory management software
• Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and safety standards

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field
• 4+ years of relevant logistics experience in a related industry and 1-3 years of supervision experience

Nice to Have

• Professional certification such as Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM)
