The Transit Service Technician is responsible for fueling and servicing Green Bay Metro buses, performing safety checks, and preparing vehicles for daily service. This role maintains cleanliness, inspects basic mechanical systems, and assists skilled mechanics with identifying potential issues.
Responsibilities
- Fuel buses and service vehicles, replacing lubricating and other fluids
- Pull fare box vaults and perform safety checks including tire pressure, tread, wheelchair lift operation, and tie down stations
- Inspect wiper blades, note overall body condition, and check/change lights
- Prepare vehicles for service, including interior/exterior cleaning using power vacuum systems and washers
- Check engines, transmissions, and hydraulic/electrical systems to identify problems and report to mechanics/supervisors
- Maintain service records and use work defect cards
- Keep work area clean and report unsafe conditions
- Operate Green Bay Metro vehicles related to maintenance activities
Requirements
- One year related experience
- Valid driver's license with an excellent driving record
- Ability to obtain a Wisconsin Commercial Driver's License with passenger endorsement within six months of hire
- General mechanical knowledge of the basic practices in servicing and lubricating automotive equipment
- Knowledge of hand tools and power tools common to mechanical repair
- Ability to operate buses for maintenance
- Ability to utilize a computer and required software
