Transfer Center Coordinator

About This Role

This role is responsible for coordinating emergency and non-emergency patient transfers and transport requests via air or ground ambulance. It involves interacting with hospital personnel, physicians, administrators, and transport vendors to ensure efficient and compliant patient transfers.

Responsibilities

• Answer emergency and non-emergency transport telephone lines for transfer requests
• Coordinate requests for transfer and transport promptly and courteously
• Gather pertinent information to process patient transfer requests and arrange transportation
• Ensure compliance with established policies and procedures for patient referral and transport
• Learn and comply with local EMS policies, procedures, processes, and protocols
• Learn and demonstrate applicable knowledge of EMTALA and Title regulations
• Coordinate with Physicians, Case Managers, and facility staff for consults and transfer requests
• Process requests for critical MD to MD consults and transfer requests for contracted facilities
• Track and monitor the location and status of ground and air ambulances for patient transfer requests
• Develop familiarity with client service area geography and medical facilities

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Knowledge of medical terminology

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent

Nice to Have

• Two-year degree in a related field
• Current or previously held EMT certification, Medical Assistant, Case Manager, or equivalent education/experience
• 6 months to 1 year prior experience in the health care environment
• 1 year customer service experience
• EMS dispatch experience
