Tractor Trailer Operator

About This Role

Operate large capacity tractor-trailer trucks to transport solid waste safely and efficiently from transfer stations to disposal sites, performing necessary maintenance checks and completing required paperwork. This role involves operating in varying weather conditions and heavy traffic within urban highways.

Responsibilities

• Operates large capacity trucks transporting solid waste from transfer stations to solid waste disposal sites
• Operates and unloads tractor/trailer at disposal sites
• Inspects equipment before starting, reports malfunctions to Supervisor, and field test equipment after servicing
• Keep written records and reports of trips and quantities transported
• Provides normal operator maintenance of equipment

Requirements

• Skill in driving large and medium sized trucks including tractor-trailer trucks
• Proper use of motor vehicle's safety system
• Knowledge of correct procedures for emergency situations (skids, loss of brakes)
• Ability to operate tractor trailers in a safe and efficient manner on urban highways
• Ability to read and understand DOT and other related regulations and complete required forms
• Ability to follow prescribed instructions and work without constant supervision
• Ability to communicate sufficiently and to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language
• Ability to make entries on reports and records
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Ability to perform basic math

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience driving large capacity commercial vehicles including tractor-trailers
