The Tissue Recovery Coordinator I responds to tissue recovery cases and provides technical support for all aspects of tissue recovery for transplant and research. This role involves intraoperative leadership of the recovery team and communication with various medical and professional staff, serving as the operative expert for the tissue recovery process.
Responsibilities
- Respond to tissue recovery cases and provide technical support for all aspects of tissue recovery for transplant and research
- Perform intraoperative leadership of the recovery team and communicate with medical professionals, hospital personnel, funeral home staff, and coroner or medical examiner professionals
- Accurately and thoroughly review donor authorization, identify donor and authorized tissues, and review donor medical history
- Assemble required supplies for tissue recovery, maintain inventory via the material management system, and manage the Recovery Suite (cleaning, inventory control, receiving deliveries)
- Perform blood draw or collect specimens and prepare for surgical dissection of tissues, including surgical recovery of skin
- Perform thorough reconstruction of donor following tissue recovery
- Verify packaging and labeling of specimens and tissues for testing, research, and/or transplant, and facilitate timely shipping
- Coordinate time management on the tissue recovery donor event with assigned recovery coordinator peers
- Maintain basic knowledge of medical terminology, general anatomy, disease processes, federal, state, and industry laws/regulations related to tissue practices
- Train staff in tissue recovery techniques where proficient, including explaining anatomical and technical concepts
Requirements
- Prove performance efficiency and excellence as a DNWest Tissue Recovery Coordinator I – Trainee
- Associate degree in biological sciences/allied healthcare/mortuary science, or completion of a surgical technology program, or an emergency medical services program (or 2 years related work experience)
- Maintain a valid California or Nevada driver’s license and current vehicle insurance
- Ability to work minimum of a 12-hour shift, with requirement of staying past shift, including weekends, nights and holidays
- Ability to travel within the service area by ground or air
Qualifications
- Associate degree in biological sciences/allied healthcare/mortuary science, or completion of a surgical technology program, or an emergency medical services program
- 2 years of work experience in a related field may be substituted for educational requirement.
