About This Role

This role involves assisting in patient care by preparing for and performing duties related to surgical procedures. The Surgical Technologist will provide support for both emergency and scheduled procedures, ensuring a safe and sterile environment while working closely with the surgical team.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge of applying surgical gloves using aseptic technique and maintaining a sterile field
  • Prepares for surgery by "pulling" the appropriate supplies and instruments for the procedure
  • Understands and recognizes the different surgical instruments and their applications
  • Displays appropriate knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology to prepare and assist in surgical procedures
  • Maintains a safe sterile field by properly positioning sharps, labeling medications, understanding electrocautery, and participating in "timeout" procedures
  • Appropriately sets up for a surgical procedure and follows protocol in counting supplies/instruments
  • Understands principles of and competently assists a surgeon during a procedure
  • Displays the ability to differentiate sutures and their applications
  • Demonstrates the ability to close a surgical site (under physician supervision) with appropriate suture
  • Demonstrates a teamwork approach in the care of a patient during the perioperative phase

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology program or military equivalent training in the Surgical Technologist role
  • Certification in Surgical Technology
  • Current BCLS certification from the American Heart Association
  • High School Graduate / GED

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology program or military equivalent training
  • 1 year of Surgical Technologist experience is preferred

Nice to Have

  • 1 year of Surgical Technologist experience

Certifications

Certification in Surgical Technology (Required) Current BCLS certification from the American Heart Association (Required)
